Subject: Upcoming Program at Newton County Library
D’Coda, modern-day “medicine woman” and herbalist, will be at the Newton County Library on Saturday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. to share an “Herbalist Workshop” with everyone. Dakota will be sharing her skill and knowledge in wild herbs that are easily found around the landscape of our homes. Medicinally significant and some edible, she will point out what we can use and what not to use, for those of us not as sure as we want to be when trying out some of the remedies we’ve all learned about in passing conversations throughout the years.
D’Coda has travelled far and wide during nearly 30 years of studying flora, before moving to a remote area in the Ozarks. Here, she has found a veritable “medicine chest” of species, and actively propagates and harvests her own garden of naturally occurring herbs and plants to use on her homestead. Most recently, she has affiliated with Dr. Brian Campbell, with the University of Arkansas-Conway in a traditional seed preservation project as a grower and seed provider, and was a key speaker at the CAAH! Heirloom Seed Bank, held at the library early last month.
Originally taught herbalism by her grandmother, D’Coda continued to expand her knowledge and experience in alternative healing therapies. In the 1980′s she apprenticed under a renowned shaman healer, don Eduardo Calderon in Peru. She then went on to study Huna under Dr. Serge King until she became a Kapua (shaman) in the Kane (healing) order. She is an avid researcher into the latest scientific findings regarding plant intelligence, pharmacology, physiological actions, and therapeutic uses. Everyone is invited to join D’Coda at the library for a wonderful program, full of knowledge and beneficial information. Refreshments will follow the program.
Hope to see you there!!
